Metro’s Cool School Summer Camps combine a unique assortment of academic, sports and adventure classes to provide students in grades 1-9 the most enriching summer experience.
These classes, offered from July 4-22, can be customized into a one, two or three week schedule.
Here are eight fun things students can learn and achieve at Summer Cool School
|1. Build a Robot
Creativity and technical skills meet in Metro’s Mighty Robots (for elementary students) and Robotics camp (for junior high students), where campers will have the opportunity to build and program their very own robots using LEGO MINDSTORMS® robotics kit.
|2. Enhance Study Skills
Get ahead of the curve! Summer Cool School Academic support classes, particularly for junior high students, will focus on reinforcing key concepts and strengthening study skills to ensure future success as students prepare for high school curriculum.
|3. Become a more confident Public Speaker
Public speaking doesn’t need to be terrifying! Campers will unearth a new skill, surrounded by classmates in a safe, supportive environment, as they discover practical tips to speak confidently.
|4. Add some Dramatic Flair
Interested in acting? Learn the craft by exploring drama improvisation games, storytelling and character development. Drama Games for elementary students will focus on the basics, while Discover Acting for junior high students incorporates elements of set design and lighting!
|5. Reinforce Academic Learnings
Prevent Summer Learning Loss by keeping up on academics during the summer. Students can review difficult concepts or preview concepts for the next grade-level in our language arts and math focused classes. Classes are based on Alberta curriculum and are taught by trained instructors so students will stay on track.
|6. Develop Programming Skills
Computer camps offered for junior high students will help students build on their computer skills and take learning to a new level! This camp is sure to please, with focused training on 3D character creation, animation or game development.
|7. Get Active
Enjoy some summer fun while enhancing skills, learning rules of the game and developing teamwork skills. Elementary students can sample a wide range of activities in the Sports and Games camp while Junior High students can focus on soccer, volleyball or basketball based on the week selected.
|8. Experience Variety
Eager to do it all this summer? Our new Daytime Adventures camps are ideal for the student who wants to try a bit of everything this summer. Students will participate in variety of fun enrichment activities including visual arts, performing arts, culinary arts, science, sports and public speaking.
Kick back and enjoy this summer while still maintaining valuable academic skills! These one, two and three-week programs will offer the best variety of fun and learning Edmonton has to offer.
